A person who sees an ancient monument, architectural structure, engineering feat, geoglyph, petroglyph, or other artifact of past peoples, and believes that it can only have been created with:

1) the help of, or
2) by

a) advanced technological civilizations, for which there is no proof, or
b) alien visitors, for which there is less than no proof

It is a common delusion of ignorant (though mostly intelligent - with a few exceptions) people who want to believe that the past was somehow primitive and incapable of achievement, yet at the same time better, more advanced, more enlightened than now. Frequently, this is a justification for the rejection of traditional religion (since it does not acknowledge these "truths"), yet these very self same beliefs, in fact, create a new religion.

The simple fact is that humans are creative, intelligent, resourceful critters, and that using common sense and enough time can accomplish truly amazing things. Several times in the past, our ancestors have worked out (independently) forms of advanced mathematics, engineering, astronomy, and even medicine. Each displays a degree of advanced understanding, limited only by their contexts.

Yet with our modern eyes, we frequently misinterpret what we see as "evidence" of "higher intelligences" at work. This is the most racist thing we can do - put down our ancestors as being incapable of the obvious accomplishments of their age! And YES, I mean racist! Humans are the most amazing species (all six variations of us). We should be proud of our ancestors accomplishments, instead of assuming they were incapable of what they clearly did!

Don't be an archaeoracist! Don't be Nazcatized by the von Daniken's of the world!

Oh and since I am on a rant today - you believers in the 13 crystal skulls! Grow up! At best there are two, maybe one real Mayan skull, though based upon new evidence they may all be fakes! And the Nazca lines were NOT created by aliens already!

While this is not a clever new definition for an Urban Dictionary; this is a serious subject, and worth a comment.

Do we own our blogs?

The simple answer is NO! We use our blogs to share information, share our thoughts, and our creative expression. The content of a blog is somewhat ours - subject to some protections. However, we are borrowing this space (even if we are paying for it), and it goes away at the whim of the blog publisher.

When we invite comments to a blog, we open ourselves to differing ideas and opinions, and those can include commercial ideas.

Where is it written that just because something is commercial it is invalid? Commercialism pays for the internet, as it does most things good in life. Perhaps you thought it was your brilliant blog that made the internet happen? Grow up! Some commercial ideas have value and merit in a blog, just as anywhere else. So the next time someone posts a polite suggestion for a visitor to view a commercially published website, be polite, and as long as it is relevant to the subject in your blog, accept it gracefully, because your visitors might actually value it!

Here's an idea! Instead of being such a blog-nazi, amaze yourself - simply delete the post, use the idea, and tell your visitors about it yourself!

A blog "owner"* who believes that their blog is sacred and that no one should dare post anything to it their didn't create or think of, or suggest that their visitors see something else that might be helpful or relevant to the subject of the blog. Blog-nazis are frequently blog-snipers.

The difference between Blog-nazi and Blog-Nazi, is when you are speaking in the generic (those people are such Blog-nazis), or specifically about a person (Bob is such a Blog-Nazi!).
